Happy Birthday Lauryn

So growing up I never had a themed birthday.  I usually celebrated with my sister because our birthdays were 4 days apart.  Maybe if we were lucky a little pin the tail on the donkey was played.   Certainly there was no money in the cake, mom was worried some kid wouldn’t notice it and choke on it!

Maybe this year I need to have my family plan a themed birthday for me!

This year Lauryn wanted a Tropical Themed birthday.

What would you need beside a birthday girl?

How about a palm tree, a beach, some waves and a surf board

a grass skirt and some flowers would be nice

Don’t forget the flip flops

Of course what Tropical party would be complete without a Tiki

My mom alway made me send thank you notes to my party guests,  these kids get something better than a letter

Happiest of Birthdays Lauryn!

Thank you Amber at Sweetambs for the tutorial on Beaches and waves

and Glory at Glorious Treats for the flower and surf board tutorial

The Sweet Sugarbelle herself, Callye for showing how simple it is to make your cookie into a sand dollar

and Michelle at MakeMeCake for the super cute Grass skirt tutorial

I do what I do because there are some great teachers out there.  They make it simple and fun!

Thanks Ladies!

Wedding Cookies, aka, Not Baby Cookies

I have loved being able to make all the lovely little baby cookies this year, but without a doubt, I need some variety in my cookie day.
So when my son asked if I could make some wedding cookies…..
One of the Managers at work was getting married and they were putting together a basket that employees could add a gift to or contribute money towards. Did I mention that the boy works at the Disney Store?

You know where this is going don’t you!!

Ok, Let’s get started,
Congratulations are the first order of business

I love this little congratulations plaque in Disney font

Then we need a Bride and a Groom
Don’t forget the ring, and we need some flowers too
I loved adding the Little Mickey heads to the ring band and the bouquet

Now, Let’s seal this with a kiss!
Wrap it up with a bow
and They Lived Happily Ever After

Is there something in the Water?

Seriously, I have made a boat-load of baby cookies this year!
First there was Baby Ben
Then Sweet Little Ivy
Then came Alex,
and Azlan
Then Jordyn

and Little Benji

Followed by Emerson

and sweet Adriano

and then little Baby Coggles who is due in the fall!
That’s alot of babies
That’s alot of cookies
That’s alot of sugar!
That’s alot of Baby Love!

My baby buggy cookie is inspired by the wonderful cookie work done by Myriam of Chapix Cookies

My diaper pins are inspired by the talented Georganne at Lilaloa

It’s Been Cookie-Palooza around here!

Wow! Where have these past weeks gone? It’s been crazy around my house with all the cookies I’m doing. Why do I do it? All the work, all the LATE nights, tired in the morning, dragging my butt into work, Why, Why, Why?
I’ll tell you why. When someone does something nice for you, or is good at their job, or is leaving their job, or is celebrating something, I like to give them a cookie.

This year I met and worked with some wonderful Teachers! They all have taught me so much. I am sad to see them move to new schools. I am sad I won’t see them everyday.

How do you sum up all you feel and all they have meant?

Reminding them they are moving on to bigger and better things is a good idea

Offering them some advice is always a good idea.
A Little reminder of who they have worked hard to become is a good idea
A hand written thank you note is always a good idea! My mom taught me that one!
A little wisdom is a good idea too

So to all those Teachers, Secretaries, Vice Principals, Prinicipals and friends I say, You will be missed!

Happy Canada Day

Happy Canada Day! You know what I have noticed? There are a whole lot of beautifully decorated 4th of July cookies out there.
Where are all the cool Canada Cookies? Oh sure we have that understated Dare Maple, Mapleleaf cookie.dare_maple_leaf Kopie
I have seen my fair share of red and white Mapleleaf cookies.
DSCN4323 I myself added a smilie face to mine one year. But really how far have we as Canadian Cookie decorators taken the Canada Day Cookie?
Not far enough. So this year I did my best to elevate the Canada Day Cookie experience.

My name is Bev, and I am a Canadian Cookie Decorator!

Peace, Love, Canada and Cookies!

New Blog Name, Same Cookie Stuff, My Mom's Birthday

This is my Mom with a Birthday Cookie I made for her. Made me stop and think about how much she has taught me about Baking and Cooking for a Family. So much of the really good stuff I love, she learned from her Mom. My Gran past away when I was about 5. Never had a chance to do too much with her. I am so blessed and grateful for all I can and have learned from my mom. Glad she is still here, so I can tell her! In honour, of my Mom and her Mom, I have changed the Name of my blog. I like it much better. Hope you do too! FYI, Mom doesn’t like having her picture posted on “this machine”. So you won’t see any pics of her.

Cake Travels with Bronwen Weber

Although I don’t do cakes, I do love eating cakes and I do LOVE Bronwen Weber.  She is a Pastry Chef and an Amazing Cake Decorator.  She was born in Calgary, and is based in Dallas Texas! I always root for her when she is on Food Network Challenge! I was so excited to see this Youtube series “Cake Travels with Bronwen Weber” by Caljava.  Caljava is the company behind Icing Genius. Did you see that post I made from this morning with the Maple Bacon Icing Concentrate?  As I was looking for info on this product I found this series.  Watch it, Enjoy it, eat some cake!

Baby Ben

Little Ben is the first Grandchild of my friend Cheryl. I can’t say no to a friend even when I’m in the midst of Christmas Cookies.
Here is my problem, coming up with color palettes. Man this is one of my biggest challenges. I try to look for inspiration, when do I stop? I went safe and slightly traditional but used ivory instead of white for a base. In the end I was pretty happy.

Valentine’s Day is the easiest and most frustrating holiday for me to make cookies for. Easy because the best cookie shape is a heart. The most frustrating because it takes me forever to decide how to decorate!  Icing, no icing, sprinkles or sugar? TraditionalImageImage or outside of the box colors? I could go on forever!  I went with tradition colors, sugars and sprinkles, no icing.  I also seemed to favor my scalloped heart cutter. It was a set from Crate and Barrel last February. Then on Sunday afternoon as I finishing up, I noticed a beautiful beam of sunlight across the counter. All I could think was quick get the camera and take some pictures!  So I did!

Well I, like everyone else in the world has to get older. I decided that for this one it would be in Paris, France!
As much as I love making cookies for family and friends to help celebrate all their wonderful occasions and milestones, I should be able to do the same for me, right? Paris Birthday cookies were ordered immediately! Eiffel Tower on one, Arc de Triomphe on another and Notre Dame on a third. Then Hubby took a picture of me with each cookie in front of each beautiful Paris landmark! What a dream come true. I won’t bore you now with my love of Josephine Bonaparte and my visit to her Chateau Malmasion, another time mon cher!
